Larry’s Speaking

The transition from urban warrior to kingdom warrior has prepared Larry to lead men toward “Acting Like Men.” Larry served for 31 years as a police officer in Southern California. He had little understanding that the conflicts and struggles he faced on the urban scene were actually preparing him to share with men how to faithfully face their personal conflicts and struggles. Weaving contemporary stories from the street with Biblical solutions, Larry engages the hearts and minds of men drawing them toward authentic Biblical manhood.

One of Larry’s main themes of “Acting Like Men” comes from Paul’s admonition in 1 Cor. 16:13-14, “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.” Larry’s presentations teach men how to do that by understanding:

  • God’s character and sovereign nature
  • Man’s character and broken nature
  • God’s plan to redeem men
  • God’s empowerment for a man’s walk in strength and holiness

One of Larry’s passions is moving men toward God through his speaking and writing. He has spoken both internationally and nationally, from the pulpit and for men’s conferences. He particularly enjoys the challenge of speaking for groups of law enforcement professionals in retreat settings or training venues. He has authored 8 books and the most recent is Men of the Bible, the Smart Guide to the Bible Series.

Larry is also a graduate of the Wilberforce Forum Centurions program (class of 2006). This year-long class trains Christian leaders how to engage this postmodern world with a Biblically grounded worldview that is reasoned, compelling, and winsome. We can know the truth even when everything in our culture says it is impossible. Truth is something worth contending for and Larry is committed to guide others in that pursuit.

Some of Larry’s topics also include:

Idol Hunting 101

Larry describes King Josiah’s passion to rid his kingdom from idols and explores the steps we must take to discover the hidden, and not so hidden, idols in our own spiritual kingdoms.

Suffering: God’s Spiritual Weight Lifting

Larry presents answers for today’s critique against an all powerful and knowing God.

Why Do I Do What I Do?

We glibly say, “God loves me and has a wonderful plan for my life”, but most often we act like, “I love me and I have a wonderful plan for my life”. Larry dissects the distinctives between these two views and challenges listeners to allow God to search their innermost hearts to know what really resides there. By the way, its not a pretty picture, but to get a clear view is worth the effort.

Act Like a Man: Battlefield Instructions from the Manual

Warfare for the Christian is not optional. We are at war whether we want to acknowledge it or not. Larry walks men through these minefields and examines our authority in Christ and the power He brings to the battle on our behalf.

Act Like a Man: As a Husband

Too often men are confused about how to balance their different roles as provider, partner, and parent. Larry exhorts men to move quickly and confidently into the lives of their children, and at the same time explores the steps needed to heal the damage our mistakes inflict along the way.

Act Like a Man: Rise Up and Lead

Do men need spiritual steroids to take leadership in the home or in the church? Or do men need to replace the wrong beliefs about themselves with a Biblical model of sacrifice and service? This presentation examines these issues and encourages men to “man up” and die to self.
